What happens when a story refuses to stay on the page?
For me, it becomes a song.
On August 13, I’m releasing “Between the Aisles,” an original song inspired by my romance novel of the same name. It is more than music created to promote a book. It is another piece of the story—one that allows readers and listeners to experience its emotions in an entirely different way.
Writing the novel gave Lena and Eli a world.
Writing the song gave that world a sound.
A Song Inspired by a Romance Novel
Between the Aisles began as a workplace romance filled with quiet glances, conversations that carried more meaning than either person admitted, and a connection that grew in the middle of ordinary moments.
The setting may be familiar—a grocery store, long shifts, fluorescent lights and aisles that need straightening—but the emotions are anything but ordinary.
It is a story about finding someone who makes an everyday place feel different simply because they are standing in it.
When I began creating music inspired by my books, I knew this story needed its own song. There were emotions in the novel that I wanted readers to feel beyond the dialogue and scenes: the anticipation, the closeness, the things left unsaid and the ache of knowing that a single person can completely change the atmosphere of a place.
That became the heart of “Between the Aisles.”
Turning a Book Into Music
My creative process usually begins with emotion.
Before I think about the melody, production or even the exact lyrics, I ask myself what the scene feels like. Is it hopeful? Is it painful? Is there longing underneath it? Is the character trying to hold on, let go or finally admit something?
For this song, I wanted the music to capture the feeling of unexpectedly finding someone who becomes the best part of your day.
I wanted listeners to hear the pull between Lena and Eli—the way their connection forms slowly through small moments, familiar routines and conversations that begin to mean more than either of them planned.
The goal was never to summarize the entire novel in a few verses. Instead, I wanted to capture its emotional atmosphere.
A book gives you every detail.
A song gives you the heartbeat.
Creating More Than a Soundtrack
As both an author and an independent artist, I have the opportunity to build a world that continues beyond the final page.
Readers can discover the characters through the novel and then step even deeper into their emotions through the music. Someone may hear the song first and become curious about the story behind it. Someone else may finish the book, press play and suddenly experience certain scenes all over again.
That connection between books and music has become one of my favorite parts of creating.
I’m not simply releasing songs that happen to share titles with my novels. I’m creating original music that belongs inside each story’s world.
Each song can represent a character, a turning point, a goodbye, a memory or a feeling that was too large to remain only on the page.
And “Between the Aisles” is where that journey begins.
For the Readers—and the Listeners
You do not have to read the novel before hearing the song. It was created to stand on its own as a piece of music.
But for readers who already know Lena and Eli, there are emotions woven into it that may feel especially familiar.
You may recognize the attraction neither of them can completely ignore.
You may hear the comfort they find in one another.
You may even think of the moments when the space between them says more than their words ever could.
That is what I hope this release creates: a bridge between the listener and the reader, between the song and the story, and between the emotions we hear and the ones we have lived ourselves.
