A Workplace Romance With Its Own Song
Between the Aisles began with quiet glances, conversations that carried more meaning than either person admitted, and a connection that grew in the middle of ordinary grocery-store shifts.
The setting is familiar: fluorescent lights, aisles that need straightening, long nights, and work that never quite stops. But Lena and Eli begin changing the atmosphere of that ordinary place simply by being in it together.
That was the feeling I wanted the song to hold—the anticipation, the comfort, the things left unsaid, and the ache of realizing one person has somehow become the best part of your day.
Writing the novel gave Lena and Eli a world. Writing the song gave that world a heartbeat.
Turning Lena and Eli’s Story Into Music
My creative process usually begins with emotion. Before I think about melody, production, or even the exact lyrics, I ask what the scene feels like. Is it hopeful? Is it painful? Is there longing underneath it? Is someone trying to hold on, let go, or finally admit something?
For “Between the Aisles,” I wanted listeners to feel the slow pull between Lena and Eli—the familiar routines, the conversations that start to mean too much, and the space between them that sometimes says more than their words.
The goal was never to summarize the entire novel in a few verses. A book gives you every detail. A song gives you the heartbeat.
Why I Create Music Inspired by My Books
Being both an author and an independent artist lets me build a story world that continues beyond the final page.
Someone may hear the song first and become curious about the romance that inspired it. Someone else may finish the book, press play, and experience certain scenes all over again. I love that the music can become a bridge between the reader and the listener.
I am not simply releasing songs that happen to share titles with my novels. I am creating original music that belongs inside each story’s world—songs for the characters, the turning points, the goodbyes, the memories, and the feelings that were too large to remain only on the page.
“Between the Aisles” is where that journey begins.
For the Readers—and the Listeners
You do not have to read the novel before hearing the song. It stands on its own as a piece of music.
But if you already know Lena and Eli, you may recognize the attraction neither of them can completely ignore, the comfort they find in each other, and the moments when silence carries more than either of them is ready to say.
That is what I hope this song creates: a connection between the emotions we read, the emotions we hear, and the ones we have lived ourselves.
